More tears than smiles marked that day which, for better or for worse, will forever remain engraved in the hearts and minds of fans around the world. The one in which Roger Federer , after a life devoted to tennis, decided to hang up his racket and say goodbye forever to the public of which he was, for years, the undisputed favourite.

He left the scene, as you will remember, on the occasion of the 2022 edition of the Laver Cup, which was played in London that year. Next to him was his lifelong friend, the legendary Rafael Nadal , who in these days is trying to understand whether it is worth continuing or whether, having reached this point, it is appropriate to follow in the footsteps of King Roger and to pull back the curtain on his extraordinary career. Joining them, as part of Team Europe, were, again, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie and Matteo Berrettini .
A great honor, an absolute prestige, for the Roman tennis player, who had never hidden the fact that Federer was the champion who, more than anyone, had inspired him. His presence at the O2 Arena in London earned him not only the emotions of that day, but also another nice surprise: thanks to that event, in fact, Berrettini will land on television.
Berrettini is also in the Federer documentary on Prime Video
The documentary that tells, in detail, King Roger’s farewell to tennis will land on Prime Video on June 20th . The work of director Asif Kapadia and Joe Sabia was presented on Tuesday 14 May in New York: in conjunction with the event, the first teaser was also released , which, needless to say, drove the fans crazy.
The documentary specifically narrates the last 12 days that marked Federer’s career, which is why it might be time to stock up on Kleenex in view of the big day. If the directors remain faithful to the work already done to honor Senna and Maradona, but also Amy Winehouse, then yes there will be tears to be had. It was born as a home video and there was no thought of disclosing it initially, but it was then decided that it was worth sharing it with the public and giving them a testimony of what Roger was able to do.

The storytelling will be enriched by interviews with his friends and rivals, first and foremost Rafa, Djokovic and Murray. And there will be space, of course, also for the most emotional moments of that magical and moving evening at the Laver Cup, which Berrettini had the honor of sharing with his title.
