“We Wouldn’t Watch Your Non-Grand Slam Match” – Holger Rune responds to person telling him they wouldn’t watch his non-Slam match
Holger Rune Engages with Fans Ahead of Rotterdam Opener
Holger Rune took to social media to personally inform his fans about his first-round match at the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam. However, one reply caught his attention—someone bluntly stated they weren’t interested in watching non-Grand Slam events.
On Monday evening, Rotterdam organizers confirmed the schedule for Tuesday’s matches, revealing that Rune, the fifth seed, would face Lorenzo Sonego at 9 PM local time on Center Court. Wanting to spread the word, the 21-year-old Dane posted an update on X (formerly Twitter):
“Playing my first round in Rotterdam, last match on center court tomorrow. See you.”
While many fans showed excitement, one user responded dismissively:
“I’m not watching tennis outside Grand Slam, sorry.”
Rather than calling them out, Rune took a friendly approach, encouraging them to give it a chance:
“You should. It’s fun. Can be.”
Rune Focused on Moving Forward
After struggling to make a significant breakthrough in 2023 and 2024, Rune has shifted his mindset. The 2021 Paris Masters champion is determined to focus on the present rather than dwell on past disappointments.
“Now I am back on the right path. I don’t focus on what happened in the past, but on what is happening now and in the future,” Rune said last week.
Acknowledging the expectations placed on him, especially after defeating Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Paris Masters final, Rune sees the pressure as a positive sign of belief in his abilities.
“There was a lot of pressure after winning a big tournament and beating Djokovic in the final. But on the other hand, you can look at it differently and say it’s amazing that people trust my tennis and have high expectations for what I can do.”
Rune is still searching for his first ATP title since April 2023, and a strong run in Rotterdam could be exactly what he needs to regain momentum.
