ATP has created a funny video on the one-handed backhand, starring the Bulgarian champion

Last February 19, when Stefanos Tsitsipas left the top 10 to make room for Alex de Minaur, for the first time in history since the official birth of the ATP ranking, no one-handed player was among the top ten players in the world. But then Grigor Dimitrov put an end to this negative trend.

“Hi guys. As you may have already heard: the one-handed backhand is dead!

Thus begins the hilarious video created by the ATP and featuring the Bulgarian champion as narrator and protagonist.
“I’m sadder than anyone. I love the one-handed backhand. It’s poetry in motion. But when something dies, it dies. I just wanted to let you know that me and some other guys are working hard on some changes,” reveals Dimitrov, explaining in a serious manner – as if he were a real actor – that he and several one-handed backhanders have embarked on a new path.

“We’re trying to use both hands wherever we can!” In a phrase that launches a series of amusing images, we can watch in order: Stefanos Tsitsipas trying to brush his teeth with two hands on a toothbrush; Denis Shapovalov trying to open a door with the same; Stan Wawrinka playing darts with two hands; Dominic Thiem and Christopher Eubanks trying to draw and use a fork, respectively, following their colleagues; and Lorenzo Musetti signing autographs.

“I assure you that we are working hard and making progress. We trust the path because two hands are better than one,” added Dimitrov before phoning Roger Federer directly: “Roger, you were right: it will never work.”
