Pundit says £35m Man City ace is the best player in the world in his position in one area after Brentford win
Erling Haaland has become the talk of the town once again after Manchester City earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Brentford.
Pep Guardiola described Haaland as an “incredible weapon” after the game.
Jack Grealish reserved special praise for Haaland as well in the aftermath of the contest.
Haaland also broke Wayne Rooney’s record of scoring the most goals (nine, Rooney scored eight in the 2011/2012 season) after the first four Premier League games — a feat that deserves praise.
The 24-year-old has constantly been in the headlines for the right reasons this season as he continues to deliver in a Manchester City shirt.
But apart from City’s number nine, some of his teammates also shone at the Etihad Stadium.
Danny Murphy makes bold claim about Man City phenomenon
One of them was Ederson Moraes, who also played a crucial role in his side’s victory.
As per Sofascore, the £35 million man made five saves during the clash as well.
The six-time Premier League winner was proactive in between the sticks, sweeping up any signs of danger in and around the box with aplomb.
Furthermore, the Brazilian international assisted Haaland’s second goal with an inch-perfect long ball.
All in all, the 30-year-old had a game to remember.
Danny Murphy claimed that Ederson is the best ball-playing goalkeeper in the world.
On BBC’s Match of the Day, the pundit said: “I think they have got the footballing goalkeeper in the world. His decision-making on when to play short, when to play long, was perfect today.”
“Brentford pressed really high, man to man brilliantly.”
Murphy added: “Really brave and really won the ball back quite a few times. But Ederson realise quite quickly, ‘I’ll stop playing short and he started firing a few quite quickly into [Erling] Haaland and he has this wonderful vision and he’s in charge of it so often.”
“And because we’ve got so used to seeing it, we take it for granted. They’re as good as anyone as varying at their game. And you have to be able to vary your game depending on the opposition and I think he deserved some credit today.
Ederson is capable of playing every kind of pass
It is tough to disagree with Danny Murphy about Ederson.
The former Benfica goalkeeper is capable of playing every kind of pass — as was exemplified by the variety in his passing against Brentford.
From kicking the ball long to set Haaland’s second goal up to breaking the lines and playing simple passes, Ederson’s distribution was exceptional once again.
As Danny Murphy stated, the Manchester City number one helped his side vary their game based on his approach in possession.
Such attributes perhaps justify why Ederson’s distribution is always lauded by fans and pundits alike.
