Djokovic takes issue with his wife Jelena after strict ban on his children

Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena reportedly fight over limiting their two children’s access to cell phones. The couple married in 2014 and had a daughter, Tara and a son, Stefan, who is now nine.

Djokovic With His Wife

According to the reports, Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena quarrel over the restriction on their two kids’ use of cell phones. After getting married in 2014, the high school sweethearts welcomed Tara, then seven years old, and Stefan, who is currently nine years old.

After losing in the third round of the US Open, Djokovic joined Team Serbia for the Davis Cup. On Saturday, Jelena and Tara watched the 37-year-old defeat Ioannis Xilas in just 45 minutes while only giving up one match.

Djokovic was allowed to discuss a particular aspect of his family life just before that match. He talked about it and said: “My children still don’t have a cell phone, my wife and I argue (about it). The kids complain, ‘At school, everyone has one except us’. It’s not easy and this is reflected on other levels as well. If everyone does something, the herd behaves like this, you have to follow them. Well, it doesn’t have to be like that. This is where I think we differ from others because we are stubborn and active.”

Djokovic has previously stated that he approaches parenting in a more conventional manner. He emphasized the value of keeping them engaged throughout the Wimbledon Championships this year.

Djokovic says that ATP Finals event is not his priority anymore

When asked about his objectives for the remainder of the 2024 season, Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic said that winning Grand Slams and representing his nation are the two most significant life goals.

Djokovic Playing On Court

Speaking about his goals for the rest of the 2024 season, Novak Djokovic of Serbia stated that achieving Grand Slams and representing his country are the most important things in life.

In the Davis Cup, Djokovic made his comeback yesterday, defeating Ioannis Xilas 6-0 6-1. In their Group I match, Serbia will face an exhausted Greek lineup without Stefanos Tsitsipas.

In his first match since his unexpected loss in the US Open’s third round, Djokovic talked about how the Davis Cup gives him more motivation as his career ages.

Djokovic explained: “Weeks like these represent another motivation, they inspire me to keep going, they awake those butterflies in my belly. I thought that I would never have to seek motivation anywhere, it all used to come naturally – automatically – but that has not been the case in the last few years. In order to prolong my career, I need to enjoy, I need to choose wisely the tournaments I am going to play.”

Next week, Djokovic is expected to play an exhibition match in Sofia against Grigor Dimitrov before making his first appearance at the Shanghai Masters in five years.

But Djokovic doesn’t seem to have much planned for his schedule after that. He talked about it and said: “After that, I am going to see what am I going to do. Usually in my career, I used to have my schedule ready six months in advance, but nowadays that’s not the case, now it’s more spontaneous. Firstly, I need to physically, emotionally and mentally rest in order to even start thinking what I want to do next, in what way, how much and where.”

And even though Djokovic has won a record seven titles at the tournament, including the one from last year, he has stated that making it to the ATP Finals is no longer his objective.

He continued: “Torino is not my goal at all, to be honest, I am not chasing ATP Finals, I am not chasing the rankings etc. As far as I am concerned, I am done with those tournaments for my career. Whether I will play in other tournaments this year or in the future, I can’t say right now. My main priorities are playing for the national team and Slams, everything else is less important.”

Despite being 37 years old and already the most successful player in tennis history, Djokovic made it clear that his future priorities lie beyond the ATP rankings.

“I’m not chasing my ranking or the ATP Finals anymore. Those aren’t my goals, honestly. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve finished my career on other tournaments. My priorities now are playing for the national team and Grand Slams, everything else is secondary,” Djokovic shared after the match.

Djokovic talks honestly about Nadal’s influence on his success at the French Open

Regarding his victory at the French Open, Novak Djokovic has been open about the influence Rafael Nadal had on him. The Serbian stated that Nadal was the main reason he did not have more titles at Roland Garros because the Spaniard was unbeatable there for a significant period.

Djokovic And Nadal

About his triumph at the French Open, Novak Djokovic has been candid about the impact his fierce competitor Rafael Nadal had on him.

The Serbian claimed that Nadal was unbeatable at Roland Garros for a considerable amount of time and that the Spaniard was the main, if not the only, reason he did not have more titles there.

The 37-year-old is a three-time French Open champion and a four-time runner-up in the major on clay. Before completing the career Grand Slam in 2016 with his first-ever French Open victory, Djokovic had won multiple titles at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.

Nadal has only lost two of his four Paris Grand Slam matches to Djokovic, in the quarterfinals of the 2015 tournament and the semifinals of the 2021 tournament. Nadal owns an incredible 112-4 record at Roland Garros, an all-time record for titles at a single major tournament, and an astounding 14 Roland Garros crowns.

During an interview with the Serbian broadcaster RTS, Djokovic was questioned about whether Nadal’s supremacy was the only reason he hadn’t won the French Open sooner.

Djokovic talked about it and said: “Probably not, to be completely honest. For me, but for Federer as well. Nadal was unbeatable there for a long time — he lost only a few times at Phillipe-Chatrier stadium. Every time you walk on that court there with him, he is the favourite.”

He added: “Even at the Olympics, he had injury trouble, I was in better form, but still, you know it’s the highest mountain to climb. He is the biggest, perhaps the only reason why I don’t have more Roland Garros titles, but I say – every win against him there is worth double.”
