Another stop for Matteo Berrettini . After winning the first set against the Frenchman Arthur Fils in the round of 16 of the ATP tournament in Tokyo, the Italian tennis player has retired . Berrettini asked for the intervention of a physiotherapist for a problem with his abdominals , then the Italian tried to return to the court but after a few points in the second set he gave up. Berrettini stops again
There is no peace for Matteo Berrettini. A year and a half later, the problem with his abdominals has returned . In fact, throughout the first half of 2023 , the Italian tennis player had been limited by a chronic injury that had emerged during the Monte Carlo Masters 1000. An injury that had relapsed, as happened (in the same year) in June at Queen’s . 2024 had not started much better: then the sudden rise in the ATP rankings and the rebirth . Physical and mental relapses: ” I no longer recognized myself . At a certain point I was stuck in a loop in which I thought that to get out of a situation I would have to be inflexible with myself”. And at the best moment, Berrettini has to stop once again . With the Malaga finals that, more than ever, are so distant in his mind. Last year he experienced them as a spectator: now, this new injury could reserve the same fate for him.
