Chelsea forward Noni Madueke featured twice for England during October’s international break – including his cameo as a second-half substitute against Finland.
Jack Grealish has praised Noni Madueke after the Chelsea forward made quite the impression off the substitutes bench during England’s 3-1 win over Finland on Sunday. The 22-year-old was introduced for the final 21 minutes at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium as the Three Lions returned to winning ways.
Although Madueke didn’t directly contribute to a goal or provide an assist, he looked threatening throughout his time on the pitch. The former PSV man wasn’t afraid to take on his marker and created a couple of chances for his teammates, one of which nearly resulted in an own-goal to add further gloss to the score.
After the game, Madueke posted four images from the two Nations League outings, over these past couple of days, as he featured in both the surprise defeat to Greece and win against Finland. Grealish replied on Instagram: “My Brother,” and added to it with two blue love heart emojis. Meanwhile, Madueke’s Chelsea teammate Carney Chukwuemeka, Aston Villa’s Jaden Philogene, Monaco’s Jordan Teze and NEC Breda’s Noah Ohio were among the others to leave a comment.
Madueke didn’t start the opening game of the season – against Manchester City – but has been named in the XI for the last six Premier League matches. He scored a hat-trick in the 6-2 win at Wolves and also found the net in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest just before October’s international break.
As a reward for his flying start to the domestic season, he won his first England cap last month against Finland at Wembley. Reacting afterwards, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said: “It’s a big achievement, for all players, to join their international team and especially for Noni.
“We feel very happy for him. He’s doing well. The only thing he has to do is not drop a little bit, otherwise it’s no good for him and he’s going to lose all the good things he has done until now.
“He has to continue to work well and in the proper way.”
