Man City’s Jack Grealish admits he ‘absolutely loved’ one Man United legend, he based his game around him
Jack Grealish was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United before making a £100m move to cross-city rivals.
After his breakthrough at Aston Villa, Jack Grealish was widely regarded as one of England’s most talented footballers.
He was hot property in the transfer market and had been heavily linked to United in 2020 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge of the squad.
However, Manchester City ended up breaking the British transfer record to sign Grealish from Villa for £100m.
Grealish revealed he was “really close” to joining United with Solskjaer keen on bringing the English winger to Old Trafford.
Jack Grealish ‘absolutely loved’ David Beckham
Grealish has failed to live up to his price tag at City with Pep Guardiola’s style of play sapping all the flair out of his performances.
We will never know how things would have played out if Grealish joined United instead, but Solskjaer’s style of play did seem better suited. It makes you wonder if he regrets not joining the Red Devils four years ago.
Especially as Grealish has now revealed that one of the players he idolised growing up was United legend David Beckham.
Grealish was discussing players he has modelled his game around on Sky Sports Premier League.
When Beckham was revealed, Grealish said: “Yeah, obviously I absolutely loved him. Everyone did I think.”
Man United no longer need Jack Grealish
Solskjaer was desperate to add a star winger to his side back in 2020 and United eventually ended up landing Jadon Sancho instead of Grealish.
Sancho flopped at Old Trafford and left to join Chelsea on loan this summer, but frankly United are well-equipped out wide.
Marcus Rashford has grown into the season and has impressed in recent weeks, while Alejandro Garnacho is keeping pace with Kylian Mbappe.
Amad Diallo is also enjoying a breakthrough season under Erik ten Hag, so it has to be said that United’s winger department is one of the strongest areas in the first-team squad.
