Lorenzo Musetti talked about his success this summer, the impact fatherhood had on his tennis, and his countryman Jannik Sinner’s doping case at the UTS event in Frankfurt.
During the UTS event in Frankfurt, Lorenzo Musetti discussed his success this summer, how fatherhood influenced his tennis, and his countryman Jannik Sinner’s doping case.
The Italian player advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals and took home the bronze at the Olympics in Paris.
Both on and off the court, Italian tennis has had a very exciting year. Although players like Lorenzo Musetti and Jannik Sinner have performed exceptionally well this season, the latter has also been involved in a doping scandal that has threatened to overshadow his stellar play.
Musetti had strong feelings about his nation’s 2024 performances, even in the face of Sinner’s doping scandal.
In an interview with Tennis Majors, Musetti revealed the details of Sinner’s doping scandal. Musetti was brought back to the 38 Clostebol cases that rocked Italian sports in recent years.
Musetti said: “Most of the other cases did not come from tennis players. There were a few. If there had been 38 cases of tennis players, that probably would go in a way that you could think there is something suspicious. But on our level, I know only Jannik (Sinner) tested positive for this substance. So we don’t have to take away all the good parts of the Italian tennis movement because of this. There are a lot of controls, and there is a lot of transparency in this sport. And I don’t want to think about anything else. I believe in the anti-doping fight.”
At the moment ranked no.17, the Italian has managed to achieve an overall 45-27 win-loss record in 2024. Lorenzo is competing in Vienna where he conquered the world no.49 Lorenzo Sonego 6-3 6-2.
Lorenzo Musetti will fight against the world no.52 Gael Monfils in the 2nd round. Their head to head is 2-1 for Musetti.
Musetti got to the final in the Cagliari Challenger, in the Turin Challenger, in London (cinch Championships), in Umag (Plava Laguna Croatia Open) and in Chengdu (Chengdu Open).
