Carlos Alcaraz gets his Paris Masters campaign underway today with the Spaniard set to face Nicolas Jarry in the French capital. The final Masters 1000 event of the year has already produced some eye-catching results.
In the first big shock, world No. 12 Tommy Paul was defeated by Adrian Mannarino in straight sets. Meanwhile, Stefanos Tsitsipas impressed in his victory over Roberto Carballes Baena, although the Greek did need to come from a set down in that match.
Attention now turns to Tuesday’s action with Alcaraz and Brit Jack Draper due on court.
Jannik Sinner withdraws from Paris Masters
Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Paris Masters.
The Italian has cited a virus for his decision to leave the French capital.
In a video message for fans, he said:
“Hey guys, I’m here. I’m very disappointed to tell you that I am not able to play here at this tournament.
“I came very early here to prepare and then I felt sick. I’m having a virus at the moment, which is gonna pass in the next two or three days. Body-wise, I am not able to compete.
“I am very, very sorry for that. I will see you guys [in Paris] next year, hopefully it will be a great year. And this year – without me! Hopefully I’ll see you next year. Ciao.”
