Jack Grealish had gone off to fine start to the season before picking up his latest injury.
Starting six games in all competitions this season, Grealish was showing signs of returning to his brilliant best in a City shirt.
But ahead of Manchester City’s 1-0 win against Southampton, the 29-year-old was deemed injured.
Ahead of the Sky Blues’ clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, Jeremy Doku has been ruled out alongside the England international as well.
With Kevin De Bruyne’s injury also being “more complicated” than initially expected by Pep Guardiola alongside the absences of Kyle Walker, Doku, Oscar Bobb and Rodri, City’s squad looks paper thin.
As a result, the return of Grealish to full fitness would be ideal for Guardiola.
Pep Guardiola reveals Jack Grealish will return from injury after international break
With the former Aston Villa attacker’s experience in title races as well, his presence would help this City side massively.
The silky technician has won multiple trophies at the Etihad Stadium and often, he starts in the big games for the Sky Blues.
But when quizzed about whether Grealish will recover from his injury before the international break in November, Pep Guardiola replied via HaytersTV: “I don’t think so.”
The three-time Premier League winner will only return to the side after the international break now.
Grealish even picked up an injury at the start of the season that caused him not to be in Manchester City’s matchday squad in their 2-0 win against Chelsea.
In May, it was revealed that Grealish’s view on last season was that his campaign was a “write-off.”
Having suffered off-field issues such as the burglary that took place at his house was an incident that had left the decorated wideman in shock. But the report also revealed that Grealish’s persistent injury woes were another reason why he felt he could not have the season he desired — starting a mere 10 games in the Premier League.
Grealish admitted his season was one where he had not “performed well at all” after Manchester City defeated West Ham United 3-1 on the final day of the campaign to become Premier League champions.
Which games will Grealish miss due to injury?
Now that the treble-winner is unavailable until after the international break, he is set to miss another run of important games for City.
In July, Gabby Agbonlahor revealed Grealish’s hard work in pre-season with fitness coaches and personal trainers was ongoing due to his desire to rediscover his best form at Manchester City.
However, it seems like the fruits of the in-form forward’s labour have gone to waste for now due to his injury issues. Here is a list of games Grealish is set to miss.
| GAME | COMPETITION |
| TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR | CARABAO CUP |
| AFC BOURNEMOUTH | PREMIER LEAGUE |
| SPORTING CP | CHAMPIONS LEAGUE |
| BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION | PREMIER LEAGUE |
| TOTTENHAM | PREMIER LEAGUE |
| FEYENOORD | CHAMPIONS LEAGUE |
Grealish could miss up to six games in all competitions until the international break.
Whether he is deemed fit to start for Manchester City’s visit to Anfield to face Liverpool after club football returns remains to be seen.
Grealish will surely be gutted by how much action he is about to miss.
