Sabalenka had an outstanding 2024, winning several titles, beginning with the Australian Open, where she defeated top players like Brenda Fruhvirtova, Lesia Tsurenko, Amanda Anisimova, Barbora Krejcikova, and Coco Gauff to reach the final. “Honestly, I wasn’t really focused on the World No. 1 ranking or what I needed to do to finish the year on top,” Sabalenka explained. “I didn’t do the math. When asked in an interview if I knew what it would take to become World No. 1, I said, ‘No, and don’t tell me, please.’ I just wanted to focus on my tennis and stay in the moment.”

During Wimbledon 2024, Sabalenka was ranked fourth in the WTA with 4,466 points but withdrew from the tournament due to injury. However, she bounced back in spectacular fashion, winning multiple major tournaments and reclaiming the No. 1 spot in the rankings.
