Swiatek, who served a brief suspension after the positive test, admitted that she initially feared a negative public reaction. However, the response, particularly from her home country of Poland, has been overwhelmingly supportive, helping her maintain a positive mindset during this trying time.
“I was scared that most people would turn their back on me,” Swiatek confessed. “But the reaction in Poland, where I saw most of the feedback, has been really supportive. I truly appreciate that because even when I missed tournaments, it wasn’t easy. But after the information about my case came out, I felt the support, and it’s great.”
The former World No. 1 was suspended following a test before the Cincinnati Open in 2024, where low levels of trimetazidine were detected. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) later confirmed that the positive result was due to contamination from a non-prescription medication, melatonin, which Swiatek had taken for sleep issues.
