Ons Jabeur has made a triumphant return to the WTA Tour at the 2025 Brisbane International. In her first match since August 2024, the Tunisian star defeated China’s Saisai Zheng 7-6(5), 6-4 in the opening round.
This victory marks Jabeur’s first since reaching the third round at Wimbledon in July 2024. Her 2024 season was marred by injuries, including a shoulder issue that sidelined her for the final four months. Returning to action, Jabeur expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating, “I was practising really hard for the past two months and I didn’t know what to expect from my first match after taking a break for a few months, so I’m happy for the win, happy to be back.”
Jabeur, who was once ranked as high as World No.2, is currently positioned at No.42. Her next challenge in Brisbane is a second-round encounter with 14th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Reflecting on her return, Jabeur noted, “I missed winning. That’s the most important thing. Obviously, the time I spent with my family was really necessary and I did some good work for humanity so very happy with that and that gives me the happy feeling to be back on the court.”
