Martina Hingis, the renowned tennis champion, recently disclosed that rising star Mirra Andreeva approached her for a coaching role during the 2024 season. Despite her admiration for Andreeva’s playing style, Hingis declined the offer due to family commitments, particularly her daughter’s kindergarten schedule, which limits her travel availability.
Andreeva, who turned 17 in April, has made significant strides in her career, reaching the French Open semifinals in May—becoming the youngest Grand Slam semifinalist since Hingis in 1997—and achieving a career-high ranking of No. 16. She also secured her maiden WTA title in Iasi in July.
Currently, Andreeva is coached by Conchita Martinez. Hingis praised Martinez’s efforts in refining Andreeva’s game and expressed optimism about the young player’s future. She suggested that by adopting a more aggressive approach—taking the ball on the rise and stepping forward—Andreeva could soon break into the top 10 rankings.
Hingis’s insights highlight her continued influence in the tennis world and her support for emerging talents like Andreeva.
