Australian tennis legend Todd Woodbridge believes that Alex de Minaur is on the verge of a breakthrough in Grand Slam tournaments, stating that the “obvious next step” for the rising star is to reach the semifinals, finals, or even win a major title. In a recent interview, Woodbridge shared his thoughts on de Minaur’s progress and potential, noting that the 25-year-old has developed the maturity and skill set needed to make deeper runs at Grand Slams.

De Minaur, who has consistently been one of Australia’s top players over the past few years, has shown steady improvement on the ATP Tour, but has yet to reach the latter stages of a major tournament. Woodbridge, however, believes that de Minaur is ready to take that next step. “He’s got the game, the fitness, and now the experience,” Woodbridge said. “The obvious next step for him is to make a semifinal, a final, or even win a Grand Slam.”

Woodbridge pointed out that de Minaur’s incredible speed and ability to chase down almost every ball make him a tough opponent for anyone on tour, particularly on hard courts. However, the Australian legend also emphasized that de Minaur has made significant improvements to his offensive game, which will be crucial for his chances in the late stages of a Slam.

“He’s always been known for his defensive skills, but what’s really impressed me is how he’s added more firepower to his game. He’s more aggressive now, and that’s what you need to succeed at this level,” Woodbridge explained.

With de Minaur already ranked inside the top 20 and having represented Australia at various international events, Woodbridge is confident that the time is right for him to break through on the biggest stage. “It’s all about belief now. He’s shown he can compete with the best, and if he can string together the right performances, I don’t see why he can’t go all the way.”
