Emma Raducanu, the 22-year-old British tennis star, is gearing up for a promising 2025 season with significant changes aimed at enhancing her performance and overcoming past injury challenges.
New Fitness Coach
To bolster her physical conditioning, Raducanu has enlisted the expertise of Yutaka Nakamura, a renowned fitness coach known for his work with champions like Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka. Raducanu believes this collaboration will unlock her athletic potential, stating, “I think I can become one of the best athletes out there in tennis.”
Overcoming Injuries
Injuries have hindered Raducanu’s progress since her 2021 US Open triumph. Determined to stay on court longer, she emphasizes the importance of her natural athleticism and is committed to fully developing it under Nakamura’s guidance.
Recent Challenges
While preparing for the Australian Open, Raducanu faced an unexpected hurdle when she was bitten by jumping ants, leading to swelling due to an allergic reaction. She chose not to use an antiseptic spray over concerns about doping regulations, reflecting heightened caution following recent doping cases in tennis.
Fresh Start in 2025
Raducanu is set to commence her 2025 season at the Auckland tournament, followed by participation in Adelaide, before competing in the Australian Open starting January 12. She expresses enthusiasm for the upcoming season, noting, “On the training court I feel amazing… I felt like I recovered well.”
With a renewed focus on fitness and a proactive approach to injury prevention, Raducanu aims to reclaim her status among tennis’s elite in the 2025 season.
