Australian Open: Iga Swiatek’s impressive Grand Slam Round 1 record revealed after latest win
Iga Swiatek extended her dominant record in Grand Slam opening-round matches with a strong victory to kick off her 2025 Australian Open campaign on Monday.
As the second seed, Swiatek faced a challenging opponent in doubles world No. 1 and former top-30 singles player Katerina Siniakova. Despite the tough match-up, Swiatek managed to navigate through the challenge, securing a 6-3, 6-4 win on John Cain Arena.
Swiatek showcased her solid form, hitting 17 winners while keeping her unforced errors to 15. She broke Siniakova’s serve four times and dropped her own serve twice, all while landing 71% of her first serves in play. Statistically, the performance was impressive, and the win further solidified Swiatek’s remarkable record in Grand Slam first-round matches.
Since making her Grand Slam main draw debut at the 2019 Australian Open, Swiatek has only lost one opening-round match, which came at Wimbledon that same year to Viktorija Golubic. Her overall record now stands at an incredible 23-1 in Slam first-round matches, with 22 of those victories coming in straight sets.
Swiatek is also the only woman to have reached the second round of every Grand Slam event this decade. Her next opponent, Rebecca Sramkova, comes into the match after defeating Katie Volynets in three sets for her first-ever Grand Slam main draw win.
If Swiatek wins her next match, it will mark the 20th consecutive Grand Slam in which she has reached at least the third round, further cementing her consistency at the highest level.
