Coco Gauff survives Burrage barrage to reach third round

Coco Gauff survived a tough test in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open, overcoming Britain’s Jodie Burrage in a tense encounter to reach the third round.

The 20-year-old American, the tournament’s third seed, faced a spirited challenge from Burrage, who played aggressive, high-intensity tennis. Gauff, however, remained composed, managing to outlast her opponent despite a few moments of struggle.

After a tough start, Gauff found her rhythm and managed to break Burrage’s serve multiple times. The match featured a number of long rallies, but Gauff’s superior movement and consistent groundstrokes helped her hold firm as Burrage pushed her to the limit.

Gauff triumphed with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory, proving once again why she is one of the favorites for the title. Burrage showed great heart, taking the second set and creating some nervy moments for the American, but Gauff’s resilience saw her through in the end.

Looking ahead, Gauff will be aiming to continue her impressive form as she targets another Grand Slam title after her breakthrough 2023 US Open victory.
