Emma Raducanu Points Out the Key Difference in Facing Iga Świątek Now Compared to Nine Months Ago After Heavy Australian Open Defeat

Emma Raducanu reflected on her recent loss to Iga Świątek at the 2025 Australian Open, pointing out a significant change in the way the world number two competes compared to their previous meeting nine months ago. The British star fell to Świątek in straight sets, marking a heavy defeat in the third round.

Raducanu acknowledged the difficulty of facing the Polish player, who has improved significantly since their last encounter. “She’s a much more complete player now than she was nine months ago,” Raducanu said in her post-match interview. “Her aggression and consistency have gone up a level, and she seems to have found more control in her attacking game.”

Raducanu faced Świątek at the 2024 Indian Wells tournament, where she was able to test the three-time Grand Slam champion in a competitive match. However, this time around, Raducanu felt the gap had widened. “Iga has worked a lot on the way she approaches her points. She reads the game quicker and has developed more patience in rallies, which makes her tougher to break down,” Raducanu explained.

Świątek’s relentless form at the Australian Open has been evident, as she hasn’t dropped a set so far. Raducanu, though disappointed, remains focused on improving her own game, noting the progress she has seen in Świątek as a motivator for her own journey. “I know where I need to get to now. Facing someone like Iga, who’s raised her game, just shows me the areas where I can keep pushing myself.”
