Boris Becker, former tennis great and Novak Djokovic’s former coach, believes that Novak Djokovic isn’t as strong as he was three years ago. In an interview discussing the ongoing Australian Open, Becker tipped Alexander Zverev to push Djokovic and potentially reach the final in Melbourne.

Becker acknowledged that despite Djokovic’s incredible achievements and resilience, age is starting to catch up with the Serbian legend, who turns 38 later this year. Becker noted that while Djokovic remains a formidable competitor, especially in Grand Slam tournaments, he is no longer at the peak of his physical and mental powers like he was during his prime years.

“Novak isn’t as strong as he was three years ago,” Becker remarked. “He’s still playing great tennis, but the wear and tear of the years is noticeable. We’re starting to see more vulnerabilities, whether it’s injuries or longer recovery times.”

Becker believes this could open the door for Zverev, the 26-year-old German player, to capitalize on Djokovic’s possible dip in form. Zverev has long been considered one of the brightest young talents in tennis, but he has yet to claim his first Grand Slam title. According to Becker, Zverev has been steadily improving and gaining confidence, and this year’s Australian Open could be a breakthrough opportunity for him.

“Zverev is playing really well, and if he can stay focused, I think he has a real shot at reaching the final. He has the tools to push Novak in a long match,” Becker added.
