Patrick Mouratoglou recently highlighted the differences between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, explaining why one may appear more dominant at times despite both being elite players. As the two have risen to the forefront of the ATP Tour, they have split seven Grand Slam titles in recent years, marking the beginning of a new era following the retirements of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Sinner, 23, currently holds the World No. 1 spot, thanks to his remarkable consistency, while Alcaraz, 21, has captured several major titles, including victories in their recent head-to-head clashes. In 2024, their dominance became clear, with both players securing two Grand Slam titles—Sinner winning the Australian Open and US Open, while Alcaraz claimed the French Open and Wimbledon.

However, Alcaraz has struggled with consistency throughout the season, causing him to fall behind in the ATP rankings, currently sitting at World No. 3. Despite this, Mouratoglou does not believe that Sinner is definitively superior to Alcaraz.

“Sinner is not above everyone. I don’t think he is above Carlos,” Mouratoglou explained. “When Carlos is at his best, it’s a real match. Nobody can predict who’s going to win. Their matches have been very close, and Carlos has won some important ones, so I wouldn’t say Sinner is above him. I think both Jannik and Carlos are above everyone else.”

Mouratoglou pointed out the distinct styles of both players. “Carlos makes more unforced errors because he plays with more risk. On the other hand, Sinner’s strength is that he plays at an incredibly high pace without missing, which is his key asset. Carlos, meanwhile, has exceptional power and the ability to change rhythm, which can make him look less dominant in some matches but gives him a lot of margin.”

The rivalry between the two currently favors Alcaraz, with a 6-4 record, including three consecutive wins in 2024. Mouratoglou concluded, “Both won two Grand Slams last year, and Carlos, for now, has one more than Jannik despite being younger. So, I don’t think we can say Jannik is way ahead—that’s simply not true.”
