Emma Raducanu Opens Up on Changes to Rediscover Her Best Form
Emma Raducanu has made significant lifestyle adjustments in an effort to regain top form. The British tennis star has struggled with injuries and inconsistency since her stunning 2021 US Open triumph.
In 2023, Raducanu underwent surgeries on both wrists and an ankle to address recurring injuries, forcing her to miss much of the season. Her first competitive appearance of 2025 came at the Australian Open, marking her return to the tour.
To navigate these challenges, the 22-year-old has embraced solitude as a means of self-reflection, often taking solo walks and coffee outings to clear her mind and refocus.
“I think last year was a difficult one for me, especially missing the second half due to injury,” Raducanu told The National. “I had a lot of time to think and reflect during that period, and I had to make some really tough decisions—choices that were emotionally difficult but necessary for my growth.”
She added: “Before, I didn’t have much time to read or spend time alone. Now, that’s something I’ve embraced. This year, I’ve gone on plenty of solo walks and coffee dates, giving myself space to reflect. It’s not always easy—especially on a tour that can feel lonely—but I’ve been enjoying it so far.”
Raducanu is currently in the UAE for the Abu Dhabi Open, where she was initially set to compete as a qualifier before receiving a main-draw wildcard due to player withdrawals.
She will be competing without a full-time coach following Nick Cavaday’s departure for personal health reasons. Now searching for the seventh coach of her career, Raducanu insists she never intended to go through so many coaching changes so quickly.
After reaching the third round of the Australian Open in January, the world No. 56 is eager to build on that performance and climb back up the rankings.
