Jannik Sinner to Part Ways with Darren Cahill After Season, Eyes New Coaching Direction

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is set to part ways with his longtime coach Darren Cahill at the end of the current season. While no official replacement has been announced, the Italian star is already exploring potential candidates to guide him forward.

Cahill, who joined Sinner’s coaching team in 2022, has been instrumental in his meteoric rise. Under Cahill’s mentorship, Sinner clinched three Grand Slam titles—including the 2025 Australian Open—and ascended to the top of the ATP rankings. Known for maximizing player potential, Cahill previously worked with legends such as Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, and Simona Halep.

Despite his impact, the partnership will come to an end, prompting speculation about who might fill the coaching void. One name floated was ATP legend Adriano Panatta. However, the Italian dismissed the idea with a touch of humor and honesty.

“Coach Sinner? For heaven’s sake, it’s not a life for me—seeing the same people every day. A coach needs almost a monastic calling; they spend over 300 days together. Talking about tennis all day? I get bored after five minutes,” Panatta said in an interview on Rai Radio 1.

The 23-year-old Sinner is currently serving a three-month suspension after testing positive twice for clostebol in March. His return is scheduled for May 4 at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome, and fans are eager to see how he bounces back.

Italy’s Davis Cup captain, Filippo Volandri, has urged fans to be patient with Sinner’s return:

“Vagnozzi told me Jannik is very motivated and eager to return, but you can’t expect him to win tournament after tournament right away. He’s been out for three months—his main goal is Roland Garros.”

Back in Training With Top Players

Now that his training ban has ended, Sinner is ramping up preparations with practice sessions alongside ATP stars like Matteo Berrettini and Jack Draper. The trio has been spotted training at the Monte Carlo Country Club, sharpening their skills ahead of the busy clay season.

Sinner was prohibited from playing or training with pro players until April 13, the same day Carlos Alcaraz secured his maiden Monte Carlo Masters title. Since then, Sinner has been focused on regaining match fitness ahead of his Rome return—and hopefully a deep run at Roland Garros.
