So far in 2025, Djokovic holds a 12-6 record, with one final appearance but still in pursuit of his elusive 100th ATP title. He’ll aim for his fourth Madrid title, having previously triumphed in 2011, 2016, and 2019. His last appearance in the Spanish capital ended in the semifinals in 2022 after an epic showdown with Carlos Alcaraz.

This season has seen its ups and downs for the Serbian icon. After starting his campaign in Brisbane with a surprising loss to Reilly Opelka, Djokovic bounced back at the Australian Open, defeating Alcaraz in the quarters. However, a thigh injury forced him to retire during the semifinals against Alexander Zverev.

Following his recovery, Djokovic’s return in Doha ended with a first-round exit against Matteo Berrettini. The struggles continued at Indian Wells, where he was stunned by lucky loser Botic van de Zandschulp. A deeper run in Miami brought hope, but Djokovic fell just short of his milestone title, losing in a tight final to rising star Jakub Mensik in straight tiebreak sets.

In Monte Carlo, Djokovic’s form dipped again. Battling a viral infection since Miami, he suffered a straight-sets loss to Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo. Struggling with both his serve and return, Djokovic couldn’t find his rhythm and was broken three times. Despite a brief fightback late in the match, Tabilo sealed the win and now boasts a 2-0 record against the Serbian legend.

As Madrid approaches, Djokovic remains determined. With his sights set on a return to form — and a historic 100th title — fans are eager to see if the Serbian maestro can reignite his season on Spanish soil.
