Tennis couple Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur shared a lighthearted moment ahead of the Madrid Open, as Boulter cheekily interrupted her fiancé’s live interview with Sky Sports.
While De Minaur was reflecting on his recent performance at the Barcelona Open — where he defeated Brit Jacob Fearnley before falling to Carlos Alcaraz — Boulter was caught sneaking up behind the camera. Giggling, she surprised De Minaur by popping her head out and jokingly shouted, “You are too good!”
The unexpected interruption had everyone laughing, and the couple briefly swapped places as Boulter took over the interview.
Upcoming Challenges in Madrid
Boulter, Britain’s top female player, will begin her clay court season in Madrid against Czech star Katerina Siniakova. If victorious, she faces a tough second-round match against Grand Slam finalist Jasmine Paolini.
She’s on the same side of the draw as fellow Brit Sonay Kartal, who impressed in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers. Boulter is making just her second main draw appearance at Roland Garros this year, having exited in the first round in 2024. Though clay is not her strongest surface, she’s hoping for a confidence boost in Madrid.
De Minaur’s Draw and Alcaraz Rematch?
De Minaur, the sixth seed, awaits the winner of Lorenzo Sonego vs. Miomir Kecmanovic. He could potentially meet Carlos Alcaraz again in the semi-finals. The Spaniard defeated De Minaur 7-5, 6-3 in Barcelona, extending his unbeaten record against the Aussie to 4-0.
Despite that, De Minaur continues to improve on clay, recently reaching the quarter-finals and maintaining his ATP ranking at world No. 7.
A Tennis Power Couple
The duo, who got engaged in December 2024, have previously teamed up in mixed doubles at Wimbledon and played the Eisenhower Cup together in Indian Wells — though Boulter jokingly considered “ending” their partnership after an early exit.
Still, the Madrid moment showed their off-court chemistry is as strong as ever.
