Carlos Alcaraz’s status for the 2025 Madrid Open is in serious doubt, as reported by Spanish outlet COPE. The World No. 3 is recovering from a right adductor injury sustained during the final of the Barcelona Open, where he faced Holger Rune.
With only a short window between the Barcelona and Madrid tournaments, Alcaraz’s ability to compete in the second clay-court Masters 1000 event of the season remains uncertain. Despite his upbeat appearance at the recent premiere of his Netflix documentary, the 20-year-old Spaniard stopped short of confirming his participation.
“Physically, I feel okay,” Alcaraz shared. “I’ve had some tests and we’re waiting on the results. I’m used to playing through discomfort. Hopefully, I’ll be able to enjoy Madrid.”
Alcaraz has had a strong clay season so far, having captured his first Monte Carlo title and reached the final in Barcelona. In Madrid, he’s scheduled to defend quarterfinal points from last year, where he lost to eventual champion Andrey Rublev.
If he withdraws, attention will turn to his recovery ahead of the upcoming Rome Masters and Roland Garros—two key tournaments in the lead-up to the French Open.
