As Jannik Sinner prepares to return to the ATP Tour, tennis legend Boris Becker has voiced his support for the Italian star, emphasizing Sinner’s importance to the sport.

Sinner, currently World No. 1, has been serving a three-month suspension after testing positive for Clostebol, a banned substance. The ban has kept him out of competition since the 2025 Australian Open, with his return set for May at the Italian Open in Rome. The event will mark an emotional comeback for Sinner as he competes on home soil.

While the suspension sparked criticism across the tennis community, Becker has remained a staunch supporter. Speaking at the Laureus Awards in Madrid, the six-time Grand Slam champion shared his excitement about Sinner’s return.

“I’m happy that he’s back,” Becker said. “Tennis needs Sinner as much as Alcaraz. The entire sports world is waiting for his return.”

Becker also addressed Carlos Alcaraz’s recent struggles, noting that the Spanish prodigy had faced harsh judgment for a dip in form earlier this season.

“Spain is very lucky to have Carlos Alcaraz. He’s a diamond—so important to tennis, a magician on court. But he’s human, and humans aren’t perfect,” Becker added.

Both Sinner and Alcaraz are seen as the future of men’s tennis, and their ongoing rivalry is expected to drive interest in the sport for years to come.
