Emma Raducanu has opened up about her evolving partnership with former Andy Murray coach, Mark Petchey, as she continues her campaign at the Madrid Open.
While their collaboration is still informal, Raducanu emphasized how much she values the connection with Petchey, who was briefly part of her team even before her 2021 US Open triumph.
“We haven’t made anything formal. It’s pretty informal for now, but it’s going really well,” she said. “He’s someone I feel like I can trust because I’ve known him for so long—before the US Open, when I won it.”
That familiarity and trust, Raducanu explained, have created a comfortable environment for her on and off the court.
“It’s just nice to be with someone I feel familiar and comfortable with,” she added.
Beyond tactical insights, Raducanu credited Petchey and her team for helping her maintain a positive mindset. The British star highlighted the importance of routines and light-hearted moments that help keep her grounded during the tour.
“I think just being able to switch off and have fun with them—play a bit of Spikeball before matches—we’ve created little routines. They bring these small doses of happiness that keep you going,” she told Sky Sports.
As she continues her run at the Madrid Open, Raducanu’s renewed approach and supportive coaching setup could play a vital role in her bid to rediscover top form.
