Luke Littler sends direct message to fans planning to boo him during Thursday’s Premier League matches
Reigning PDC World Champion Luke Littler has delivered a direct—and slightly cheeky—message to fans ahead of Premier League Darts Night 12 in Liverpool, following a spate of negative crowd reactions during his recent appearances.
The 18-year-old will take to the stage at M&S Bank Arena on Thursday night, marking his return to action after a semi-final loss to Gian van Veen at the German Grand Prix earlier this week. That event in Munich was marred by a hostile reception from sections of the German crowd.
“Shouldn’t have been in Munich but had to play anyway,” Littler posted on Instagram. “Next one in Germany for me is Dortmund [in October]—and I am glad to say that.”
This wasn’t the first time the young star faced booing in Germany. Earlier in April, he was jeered during a Premier League match in Berlin, where he was defeated by Chris Dobey. Littler also recalled a similar experience last year in Hildesheim against Peter Wright.
“I just don’t get it, and I can’t explain it,” Littler said. “Obviously, you do your walk-on, but then as soon as I got on stage, I started getting booed… It’s something we’ve all got to deal with.”
Despite the tension, Littler appeared to take things in stride ahead of tonight’s event, posting a tongue-in-cheek message on Instagram:
“One of the best nights on the Premier League calendar coming up tomorrow—bring on the boos, Liverpool.”
The reception in Liverpool could be a mixed one. As a Manchester United fan, Littler may face heat from Liverpool supporters, though Everton fans might back him in the cross-city rivalry.
