Dominic Thiem has thrown his support behind former rival Alexander Zverev, predicting a major breakthrough for the German star at this year’s Roland Garros.
Fresh off a dominant performance at the BMW Munich Open—where he defeated Ben Shelton in the final—Zverev carries serious momentum into the Madrid Open. His recent form has caught the attention of the tennis world, as he prepares to face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round.
Thiem, who famously edged out Zverev in the 2020 US Open final to claim his lone Grand Slam title, is confident that Zverev’s time has come.
“It’s realistic for Sascha to win any Grand Slam. He’s just that good,” Thiem said, emphasizing Zverev’s current sharpness and mental resilience.
According to Thiem, if everything aligns, Zverev could finally lift his first Grand Slam trophy on the clay courts of Roland Garros.
“Everything has to go well for a Grand Slam, but if it does, he’s absolutely capable of winning it,” Thiem added.
With the tournament approaching, Zverev stands out as one of the major favorites, alongside rising stars Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Tennis fans are eagerly anticipating the battles ahead as Zverev aims to fulfill his long-standing Grand Slam ambitions.
