Emma Raducanu Handed Favorable Italian Open Draw as Jannik Sinner Makes Long-Awaited Return
The draw for the 2025 Italian Open has been revealed, bringing good news for Emma Raducanu and marking the comeback of world No. 1 Jannik Sinner following his suspension.
Raducanu, 22, will begin her Rome campaign against a qualifier in the first round, a promising start for the British star. Should she advance, she’ll face world No. 16 Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round, with a potential clash against Coco Gauff looming in the last 16.
Fellow Brit Katie Boulter faces a tough test in her opener against Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. If she progresses, Boulter could meet Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and later top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka.
On the men’s side, Jannik Sinner is set to make his return to the court after serving a three-month suspension related to a doping violation. The Italian, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, received a first-round bye and will meet either Mariano Navone or 18-year-old Federico Cina in the second round.
Sinner’s path to the final isn’t straightforward. He may face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Frances Tiafoe, and Madrid Open champion Casper Ruud en route to the semi-finals. Ruud arrives in top form after defeating Jack Draper in the Madrid final.
Draper will be looking to bounce back and begins his tournament against either Luciano Darderi or Bu Yunchaokete. If successful, he could renew his rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals.
Jacob Fearnley, another Brit in the main draw, will face Fabio Fognini in his opening match. A win would see him challenge Italian favorite Matteo Berrettini.
Reigning Italian Open champion Alexander Zverev will start his title defense against either a qualifier or Camilo Ugo Carabelli. Other first-round matchups include an all-American showdown between Learner Tien and Reilly Opelka.
With major names returning and rising stars gaining momentum, the 2025 Italian Open promises high drama and fierce competition on the clay courts of Rome.
