Carlos Alcaraz is back on court at the Italian Open, fully recovered after missing the Madrid Masters due to dual thigh injuries. The world No. 3 declared he’s now “100 percent ready” to compete in Rome.
He’s not the only star making a return. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is also back in action after serving a three-month suspension issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The sanction, agreed to in February, kept Sinner off the tour until this week.
Earlier, Sinner revealed he received unexpected support from some players during his suspension—but also noted the silence from others he thought would reach out. While he avoided naming names, Alcaraz made his stance clear: he’s thrilled to see Sinner back.
“It’s great—honestly, I’m really happy to have him around again,” said the 22-year-old Spaniard. “Three months is a long time. I’m sure it was tough for him, but coming back here, at home in Rome, is the perfect place.”
The rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner has already seen 10 thrilling matches, with fans hoping for an 11th encounter—perhaps in the Italian Open final.
“We’re on opposite sides of the draw, so hopefully we’ll meet in the final,” Alcaraz added. “It’s just good to see him and his team back. I’ll enjoy watching him play again.”
Sinner is set to face Mariano Navone on Saturday in his first match since the Australian Open. Alcaraz returns Friday against Dusan Lajovic.
“I’ve had great practices, I’m in good shape, and I’m ready,” Alcaraz said. “I can’t wait for tomorrow.”
