Alexander Zverev, the world No. 3 and top seed at the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto, achieved a monumental milestone on July 31, 2025, securing his 500th ATP tour-level victory with a hard-fought 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2 comeback against Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in the third round. This triumph, reported by Tennis World USA and ATP Tour, places Zverev as the fifth active male player to reach this mark, joining Novak Djokovic, Gael Monfils, Stan Wawrinka, and Marin Cilic, and the first born after 1988, making him the youngest active player to achieve the feat at 28.

The match, lasting two hours and 46 minutes, showcased Zverev’s resilience. After dropping the first set in a tiebreak due to early backhand struggles and a critical double fault, he found his rhythm, dropping just four points on his first serve in sets two and three, per Infosys ATP Stats. He converted 19 of 26 net points and broke Arnaldi three times, capitalizing on the Italian’s 14 double faults. “It’s a great achievement. Not a lot of players reach this milestone,” Zverev said post-match, adding, “I still want 500 more—maybe even more!”

Zverev’s path to 500 wins, starting from his 2013 professional debut, reflects his consistency, with 275 of those victories since 2020, second only to Jannik Sinner’s 278, per OptaAce. He’s the seventh-fastest to reach this mark this century, trailing only Rafael Nadal, Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Lleyton Hewitt, and Andy Roddick, and the third German in the Open Era after Boris Becker and Tommy Haas. His girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla, celebrated the milestone on Instagram Stories, sharing a graphic of the achievement, as noted by Pro Football Network.

Toronto holds special significance for Zverev, who won the 2017 title against Federer. His 2025 season (37-14) includes a French Open final and Hamburg title, despite a Wimbledon first-round exit. Facing Francisco Cerundolo next, who leads their head-to-head 3-0, Zverev’s milestone underscores his ambition for a second Toronto crown and a maiden Grand Slam at the US Open.
