Djokovic withdraws from Roland-Garros due to knee injury
Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from Roland-Garros
Novak Djokovic, who was due to face Casper Ruud in tomorrow’s quarter-finals, has to withdraw from the French Open due to a medial meniscus injury in his right knee (detected following an MRI scan today).
When he spoke to the media following his win over Francisco Cerundolo, Djokovic hinted that it would not be pain but the degree of damage that would decide whether he participated in the tournament’s quarter-finals.
No further word has yet been forthcoming on how serious the injury may be, but Wimbledon begins in less than four weeks, suggesting he may not be fully fit in time for that.
It also means that Jannik Sinner will be the new world No 1 following the conclusion of Roland-Garros.
