Josh Rock has heaped praise on Luke Littler ahead of the upcoming Grand Slam of Darts — but insists he won’t be overawed when they eventually meet on the oche.

Speaking to Sky Sports in Wolverhampton, the Northern Irishman called the 18-year-old world champion “a phenomenon” and admitted that Littler’s rise has changed the sport forever, but added that he remains focused on his own path.

“That kid’s special, he’s completely different,” Rock said. “He’s got that spark you can’t teach. But I’m not here to be a fan — I’m here to beat him. His celebrity status doesn’t change anything for me.”

Rock, 24, has also enjoyed a breakout year himself, climbing into the top 16 and winning his first European Tour title. But he acknowledged that Littler’s rapid ascent — from teenage prodigy to global superstar in under two seasons — has raised the bar for everyone.

“What Luke’s done at his age is unreal. It pushes the rest of us. You can’t take your foot off the gas because he’ll punish you. But fame doesn’t win matches — consistency does.”

Littler’s combination of swagger and steel has made him darts’ biggest box-office attraction, with over three million followers across social media and sponsorship deals flooding in since his world title win. Yet Rock believes that behind the spotlight, Littler’s hunger remains pure.

“He’s still just a darts lad at heart,” Rock added. “When the lights go on, it’s game time. That’s why he’s world champion.”

Both players are set to feature in this weekend’s Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton — Littler as defending champion in Group E, Rock in Group F alongside Gian van Veen.

If results align, the two could collide in the knockout stages — and Rock says he’d relish the challenge.

“If we meet, great. I’ll give him a game. But don’t expect me to stand there starstruck — I’ll be throwing to win.”

Two of the sport’s brightest young stars — one already a global name, the other determined to join him.
Darts’ future is here, and it’s fearless. 🎯
