For the first time in its 50-year history, the Brit Awards took place in Manchester on Saturday night. However, following past controversies involving live broadcasts, ITV aired the ceremony on a short delay to ensure any inappropriate language could be censored.

A host of major names from the music industry were in attendance, including Noel Gallagher, Sam Fender and Olivia Dean, who picked up four awards on the night.

Joining the presenters was reigning world darts champion Luke Littler, who appeared on stage alongside I’m A Celebrity winner Angry Ginge. But their segment briefly turned awkward when Ginge’s microphone was cut mid-sentence, leaving viewers at home with a moment of silence.

Littler, appearing slightly uncomfortable, quickly said “Okay” before moving proceedings along and shifting attention back to the award presentation. Ginge, meanwhile, wore a knowing smirk after the audio dropped.

Those inside Manchester’s Co-op Live arena heard the full remark, but television viewers were left guessing — prompting plenty of reaction on social media.

Ginge had opened with: “Hello Manchester!” before joking that hosting the Brits in the city showed people were realising London was “a s***hole.” The comment drew loud cheers from the crowd but was muted on the broadcast due to the language used.

One viewer wrote on X: “Angry Ginge just called London a shole and it got bleeped.” Another added: “They cut Angry Ginge saying London is a shole. Once again, the truth is censored.”

Despite the controversy, Ginge later told the BBC he was delighted the event had been moved north.

“I’m glad they’ve opened their eyes to how good Manchester is,” he said. “Hopefully Manchester doesn’t become like London, but hopefully there are more events like this here. It’s the place to be.”
