Chris Dobey has revealed he has shed weight ahead of Nathan Aspinall’s Ibiza stag do — joking he didn’t want to be “the fat one” in the group.

The “Hollywood” star admits the upcoming pre-wedding trip sparked a light-hearted motivation for change, but insists the decision is about far more than appearances. Dobey is determined to improve both his fitness and his performances on stage.

Currently ranked world No.12, he acknowledged that the demanding schedule of long European Tour final days has taken its toll in the past.

Dobey said: “It’s important. I’ve struggled before with those long final days on the European Tour — it really drains you.

“I knew Nathan’s getting married this year and we’ve got the Ibiza stag do coming up, so that gave me a nudge.

“I didn’t want to be the fat one in the photos with my mates, so something had to change.

“But seriously, preparation is key. I’m eating better and looking after myself more. I’m trying to fix things and hopefully that improves my performances too.”

The Bedlington thrower has started the season strongly, claiming the Players Championship 3 title and reaching the semi-finals of the Poland Masters.

Now, Dobey has his sights set on landing a long-awaited European Tour title to add to his growing list of honours.

He added: “I want to start winning these events. I’ve only made one European Tour final before.

“It’s time to put that right and turn those semi-finals into titles.

“I’m playing in everything this year and defending a lot, so I need to focus and put the practice in.

“If I can relax and just let my darts flow without putting pressure on myself, I know I’m capable. I’ve proven before that I can win on stage.”
