GIAN VAN VEEN is facing serious uncertainty over his Premier League return in Berlin after being struck down by kidney stones.

The World No. 3 was forced to miss Night Seven of the competition, along with the Euro Tour event in Belgium, as the painful condition worsened due to an infection.

The Dutch star even had to undergo surgery in hospital and is now gradually working his way back to fitness.

However, Van Veen admits he is still far from full strength and has made it clear he won’t jeopardize his long-term health for a quick return.

Speaking on the Darts Draait Door Podcast, he said: “I’ve definitely lost a lot of strength and energy over the past week. I get tired very quickly.

“I spent the weekend with family and noticed that even small amounts of activity are still very exhausting.

“I threw for about 15 minutes on Sunday, but I was completely drained afterwards.

“I really need to rebuild over the next few days, otherwise it’s going to be tough.

“I’ll do everything I can, but at the end of the day, the Premier League Darts isn’t everything, as great as it is.

“I tried for two days to pass the kidney stones to avoid surgery, but because of the infection, that just wasn’t possible.”
