Furious Gerwyn Price blasts ‘shocking’ Premier League Darts conditions – ‘easier to play on the beach’
GERWYN PRICE blasted the “shocking conditions” at Premier League Darts Night Eight in Berlin after a frustrating night on the oche.
The Welsh star battled his way through to the semi-finals, where he was beaten 6–4 by Luke Littler.
An inspired Littler went on to make it back-to-back nightly wins, eventually defeating Michael van Gerwen in the final to cap off another dominant showing.
Price, who had earlier seen off Gian van Veen in the quarter-finals, was far from pleased with the playing conditions in Berlin. The former world champion suggested that he and his fellow professionals might actually be better off competing outdoors on a beach if it meant more consistency.
Taking to Instagram to vent his frustrations, Price wrote: “So bloody frustrating.
“Luke’s playing really well atm but to have to play in such shocking conditions it’s so bloody hard.
“But nothing’s ever done. Maybe it [would] be easier to play on the beachfront outdoors every week so we know what to expect.
“Thanks all for the amazing support once again — you really are amazing.
“Onto next week it is.”
This is not the first time Price has publicly criticised conditions on the Premier League circuit.
Last year, he took aim at the setup in Rotterdam, where he complained about a strong draught on stage and urged the PDC to reconsider hosting events at the Ahoy Arena.
The 41-year-old said at the time: “Gutted for myself, gutted for everyone that supports me.
“I’m so sorry but this week was pointless and we move to next week.
“Darts were blowing everywhere and after leg one, which was lucky, I knew it’s pointless.
“And where I was in the league after vital points, it’s not what I wanted.
“Hopefully, PDC will now stop coming here and look for alternative venues.
“Not good for the players, not good for the fans and not good for people that like a bet.
“Onto next week where we get to play in decent conditions.
“And if you think it’s the same for both players, you’re as daft as you look.”
