NATHAN ASPINALL has revealed he plans to retire his iconic ‘Mr. Brightside’ walk-on song during the final year of his darts career.
The world No.14 has become closely associated with The Killers’ anthem, which now forms one of the most recognisable entrances in the sport.
But The Asp says he already knows exactly what song will replace it when he eventually prepares to call time on his career.
Speaking on the Double Tops Podcast, Aspinall said: “Everyone associates Mr. Brightside with me.
“I’ve kept them in the top 40 for the last 10 years, you know what I mean?
“I might be called Nathan Aspinall, but I walk down the street and people go, ‘Oh, Mr. Brightside’. It grates on me.
“Everyone absolutely loves it and it’s part of the darts now.
“I think there are certain walk-ons that are iconic. Obviously Michael [van Gerwen’s], Phil [Taylor’s], Barney [Raymond van Barneveld’s], Gary Anderson’s, Adrian Lewis’ — there are certain ones that you can never change.
“And I can’t change it until it’s my final year. Then I will change it to Lose Yourself [by Eminem]. Yeah, a million percent.”
Aspinall has already experimented with switching his walk-on music on a few occasions.
Earlier this year, he used Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ during the German Darts Grand Prix, bringing it out for his semi-final clash against Kevin Doets before going on to win the tournament.
The Stockport ace also made the change at last year’s European Championship, using the track during a convincing 6-3 first-round win over Maximilian Czerwinski.
Despite his competitive drive, Aspinall admitted his biggest motivation in darts is securing financial stability for his family rather than simply collecting trophies.
He added: “I don’t care about trophies. I do this game because it’s my job and I don’t ever want my kids or me to have to worry about money.
“Of course I want to win tournaments and I’ll be buzzing to add another trophy to my cabinet.
“But for me, it’s very much about trying to make as much money as I possibly can over the next 10 years.”
