Peter Wright has defiantly declared he can still become a three-time world champion despite enduring the toughest season of his career in 2025.
The Scot dropped out of the world’s top 16 after failing to win a title or reach a single major semi-final throughout the campaign.
‘Snakebite’ was comfortably inside the top 10 only three years ago and claimed his last televised major that same season at the European Championship.
But Wright insists he still has the belief to climb back to the summit of the sport — and even predicted a blockbuster World Championship final against teenage superstar Luke Littler.
He said: “At the end of the year when I’m lifting the World Championship! Yeah, I’m going to win it.
“Hopefully, I play Luke Littler in the final. If not, Luke Humphries, because they’re the best two players in the world.”
Wright also admitted there has been a silver lining to falling away from the elite after years of travelling the globe as a Premier League regular.
He added: “To be honest, I didn’t really do anything. I just enjoyed the time off and did things around the house — well, Jo gave me jobs around the house!
“But yeah, I just enjoyed life in general because when you’re a Premier League player, you don’t really get time to enjoy your family and friends because you’re always on the road trying to please the fans and improve as a darts player.”
The 56-year-old’s dramatic decline has led many to question whether his days competing at the very top are over.
Yet Wright has built a reputation on proving doubters wrong, and he remains convinced he can rediscover the form that once made him one of the most feared players on the PDC circuit.
The former world No.1 believes a strict practice regime and renewed focus can help him regain the consistency needed to challenge for the sport’s biggest prizes once again.
