Luke Littler enters tournament in bid to make darts history despite skipping the opening 26 events of the year

Luke Littler will resume his push for darts history when he returns to the ProTour next week.

The world No.1 is set to compete at Players Championship 27 and 28 in Leicester on August 25 and 26, having missed the first 26 events of the season. The 19-year-old has a much bigger target in mind as he attempts to become the first player to win every major PDC title in a single season.

Littler has already enjoyed a remarkable year, winning the World Championship, Masters, UK Open, Premier League, World Cup of Darts and World Matchplay.

Reflecting on his incredible run, Littler said: “Obviously there have been crucial moments in tournaments that I’ve gone on to win where, in the first round, players have missed one dart at double to beat me.

“Then I go on to win the game. Sometimes it can get really, really close. Last-leg deciders, winning by two clear legs.

“Everyone knows I’ve got to go to the Leicester ProTours. The next one to look for is the World Series in Amsterdam.

“If I win that, then it’s Monday and Tuesday in Den Bosch for more ProTours. We’re looking further into it.

“The clean sweep is definitely on.”

However, Littler still has plenty of work to do if he wants to qualify for the Players Championship Finals in Minehead, which will be held from November 27 to 29.

The teenage sensation is currently £25,500 short of the qualification mark, with Martin Schindler occupying the final position inside the top 64 of the Order of Merit.

With eight tournaments still remaining, Littler may need to win one event and reach at least another final to put himself in a strong position to qualify.

Despite his remarkable success on television, Littler has historically found the ProTour a more challenging environment.

The Nuke won just one of the 12 Players Championship events he entered last season, having previously claimed three titles from 17 appearances in 2024.
