Luke Littler continues Netherlands boycott as world champion snubs Dutch Darts Championship for Dubois vs Wardley
Darts sensation Luke Littler continued his boycott of the Netherlands by choosing to watch Daniel Dubois take on Fabio Wardley rather than compete in the Dutch Darts Championship.
The Nuke has grown frustrated with the hostile reception he receives from Dutch crowds and has decided to stay away from tournaments in the country.
Littler’s issues with Dutch fans came to the forefront in September when he missed out on the World Series of Darts Finals title. However, the 19-year-old appeared perfectly happy to be sitting out the ongoing Dutch Darts Championship, as he was spotted laughing in a car park ahead of Dubois and Wardley’s heavyweight rematch in London on Saturday evening.
Speaking about the fight, Littler said: “I was there in Manchester for the first fight. I think this one’s going to be just as good and, like I’ve told numerous people tonight, it’s going to go the other way.
“Fabio Wardley wins.”
The darts world No. 1 then added: “It’s good to chill out and watch some boxing.”
However, Littler’s prediction proved completely wrong as Dubois dropped Wardley just 15 seconds into the opening round before delivering a devastating finish in the second.
The victory marked a remarkable performance from Dubois, who had been involved in a dramatic heavyweight showdown with Wardley five months earlier.
During their previous encounter, Dubois recovered from being knocked down twice to claim the title with an 11th-round stoppage victory in a fight widely considered a potential Fight of the Year contender.
This time, however, the British heavyweight wasted little time asserting his dominance. Dubois produced one of the finest performances of his career, forcing Wardley’s corner to throw in the towel in the second round.
While Littler enjoyed a night away from the oche watching boxing, his prediction about the outcome of the heavyweight clash was quickly blown apart.
