Rio Ferdinand has made a huge claim about one Manchester City player ahead of the Euro 2024 final between England and Spain.

Luis de La Fuente’s side is full of a wide array of top players who could take the game by storm.

Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams have arguably been two of the most exciting players to watch at the ongoing European Championship; capable of ripping any and every defence to shreds.

Similarly, Fabian Ruiz is perhaps in the form of his life as he has made a case for being the standout player in Germany.

However, one player who could take the game away from England is Rodri — who Robbie Fowler believes has been the best player at Euro 2024 bar none.

Rio Ferdinand claims Rodri is “the most valuable player in football”

Ahead of the contest, Conor Gallagher claimed that the Three Lions will have to do their best to curb the Manchester City midfielder’s influence due to how Spain’s game flows through him.

The £62.5 million man is perhaps having the best major tournament a City player has ever had — comparable to how brilliant David Silva was for Vicente Del Bosque’s side in their European Championship-winning campaign in 2012.

Having won every possible trophy at the club, the 28-year-old will be hoping to spearhead this inexperienced Spanish side to glory.

Rio Ferdinand made a massive claim about Rodri that will worry England supporters heading into their country’s Euro 2024 final against Spain.

Ferdinand said on The Rest Is Football podcast: “Rodri is the best conductor in the game. I actually think he’s the most valuable player right now in football.”

“Rodri is just above everybody. He almost looks like the teacher on the pitch and everyone else are pupils, that’s how it feels to me. He’s got a real calm authority about him.”

Rodri could prove that claim for Spain against England in Euro 2024 final

It is unlikely that too many eyebrows would be raised after coming across the claim from Rio Ferdinand about Rodri.

Alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, the four-time Premier League winner is arguably the best player in the world.

But as Rodri has done on several occasions in his career, he would be determined to put in a display for the ages in a massive game.

If the midfield maestro is at his best once again, he could prove Ferdinand right.

Rodri has been excellent for club and country but he is arguably playing the most important game of his career on Sunday night.

Big players step up in big games and it will be interesting to see if the treble-winner does just that on England and proves Ferdinand right in the process.
