Alex de Minaur Opens Up About Life with Katie Boulter Away from Tennis

Alex de Minaur has offered fans a glimpse into his life off the court with Katie Boulter, revealing how they unwind together amid the demands of professional tennis. The couple, who have been dating for almost five years, recently got engaged during the off-season and continue to support each other both on and off the court.

While fans are used to seeing them cheering from the stands—most recently at the Australian Open—De Minaur has now shared how Boulter helps him manage the pressures of being a top-10 ATP player.

Balancing Tennis and Everyday Life

De Minaur has been enjoying a strong 2024 season, reaching the quarterfinals of his home Grand Slam for the first time. Currently competing at the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam, the Aussie third seed reflected on the intensity of life as a top player, especially when playing in his home country.

Speaking to the ATP, he emphasized how important it was to switch off from tennis whenever possible.

“It definitely does help the weeks that I’m with Katie. It makes it a lot easier to be so far away from home. They are long stints,” De Minaur shared.

The nine-time title winner explained that the key to making life on tour more enjoyable was to engage in normal activities together.

“It is important to try and go out for dinners, go out for coffees, try to make life as normal as you can. And enjoy the time with the people you have—whether it’s friends, whether it’s players, your own team. For me, that’s the best way to make time go quicker in these long stints.”

He added that finding balance was crucial to handling the mental and emotional strain of competition.

“Ultimately, there’s the tennis side of things, which is always going to be intense and stressful. But as soon as you step off the court, try to immerse yourself in the different cities, the different activities, restaurants, coffees, and just live as much of a normal life as you can.”

Adjusting to Life in the ATP Top 10

De Minaur has been steadily rising through the ATP rankings and broke into the top 10 in early 2024, reaching a career-high No. 6.

With that rise, however, has come increased media attention and expectations, particularly in Australia, where he was under the spotlight at the Australian Open.

Reflecting on the impact of moving just a few spots up the rankings, he said:

“It’s funny the change. Two years ago, I was No. 11 or 12. Then I just moved up one spot, two spots, and it makes such a big difference in terms of eyeballs, the media, the pressures, the expectation, all of that.”

Despite loving the support from Australian fans, De Minaur acknowledged that competing at home also brings immense pressure—especially with the country eagerly waiting for its first male singles Grand Slam champion in 49 years.

Now, as he prepares for his Rotterdam Open campaign, he has a chance to focus solely on his game without the weight of national expectations. The third seed opens against former top-10 player David Goffin, looking to build on his strong start to the year.
