The 25-year-old Australian tennis star is not getting what he deserves.

The 25-year-old was forced to sit out the Davis Cup group stage the following week but Australian captain Lleyton Hewitt was adamant de Minaur could yet play a part in the campaign.

“He’s going to do everything to get back as quickly as possible,” Hewitt said, adding the pair were still working through a recovery schedule.

Instead it looks as though de Minaur has been forced to shift his focus towards getting fit for the 2025 Australian Open.

De Minaur has reached the quarter-finals at the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open — but never at the Australian Open, giving him plenty of motivation to shake off his hip injury once and for all.

But he could still opt to test himself out in Europe next month.

In the past two years he has played at ATP 500 tournaments before taking on the Paris Masters at the end of October.

The Davis Cup finals take place at the end of November.

Alexei Popyrin, Jordan Thompson, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Max Purcell and Matthew Ebden were named in the Australian squad for the event after the same quintet secured their path out of the group stage.

Having lost the past two championship ties, the Aussies are desperate to end a drought that now dates back more than two decades to 2003.

Popyrin and Thompson are both ranked in the world’s top 30 while Purcell and Ebden are grand slam doubles champions respectively ranked fifth and eighth in the world.

Australia will battle the United States in the quarter-finals, with the winner tackling Italy or Argentina in the semis.

Spain, Netherlands, Germany or Canada await in the championship round.
