As the Madrid Open experienced widespread disruption due to a major power outage, Alex de Minaur took the opportunity to enjoy some downtime — but it didn’t go unnoticed by his fiancée, Katie Boulter.

The Australian star shared a light-hearted post on social media, saying:

“Don’t mind this off-the-grid thing 😂😂😂. On the third walk of the day and finally got some service to check on the rest of the world.”

While de Minaur seemed content with the unexpected break, Boulter had other thoughts. She jokingly replied:

“Imagine blaming a country-wide blackout for not texting me back all day. Elite 🚩🚩🚩 behavior.”

The exchange quickly gained attention, with fans enjoying the playful jab. The “red flag” emoji reference is often used online to humorously point out questionable behavior in relationships.

De Minaur, who last played on Saturday against Lorenzo Sonego, was scheduled to face Denis Shapovalov on Monday. However, his match was postponed due to the blackout, which impacted Spain, Portugal, and parts of France. Power was only restored at Madrid’s Caja Mágica early Tuesday morning.

The outage delayed several matches and even left players without access to full services at the venue overnight. Donna Vekic was among the first to confirm power had returned, though primarily at players’ hotels.

While some used the break to recharge, others like Boulter used the moment to poke fun — showing once again that off-court moments can be just as entertaining as the on-court action.
