Alexander Zverev has addressed the ongoing speculation about Boris Becker potentially becoming his new coach. The world No. 2 was observed by Becker during his practice session ahead of the Monte-Carlo Masters, leading to rumors that the tennis legend might be joining Zverev’s coaching team. However, Zverev was quick to downplay the rumors, emphasizing their strong personal connection while refusing to comment on any coaching changes until there is something official to announce.

“We have a great connection,” Zverev told Sky Sports. “If anything happens, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, feel free to speculate and create stories. But I’m not saying anything about it.”

This comes after a frustrating season for Zverev, who has struggled with closing out matches he feels he’s in control of. His early exit from the Miami Open (Round of 16) left him disappointed, especially after losing a third-set break. “I’ve been losing a lot of matches where I feel like I’m in control,” Zverev said. “It happened again, and I need to take a hard look at myself.”

Meanwhile, Boris Becker, who last coached Holger Rune before parting ways with him last year, believes that Zverev’s mental attitude is holding him back from more success. “He’s not as convinced of himself right now as he was in Melbourne or at the end of last year,” Becker remarked. “It’s something that can’t be trained at fitness centers. Zverev needs to find someone who can help him with his mindset because, right now, that’s the difference between victory and defeat for him.”

As the speculation about Becker’s potential role in Zverev’s camp continues, it remains to be seen whether the two will officially collaborate.
