The German tennis player revealed the ailments he suffered in Paris: what happened?
Alexander Zverev’s revelation has worried his fans. The German tennis player, out in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics men’s singles (where he was defending the gold medal), will have to undergo some medical tests, in particular blood tests.
Zverev was one of the big favorites to win the Paris Olympics. Both because he is number 4 in the world and has been in the Top 5 for a long time and because we are talking about the champion of the last Olympics. Many were expecting a rematch with Nole in the semifinals.
The German was surprised by Musetti, who offered a good performance but the German was not in the best conditions, as he himself admitted at the press conference.
“Lorenzo was better than me in all aspects of the game. It’s really sad and shocking when you know that the Olympics only happen once every four years and you’re not 100%. I haven’t been well all week and in the second round match I was terrible, even against Lorenzo I was sick at the end of the first set and I don’t feel well physically. This thing is shocking for me, now I’ll go home and do some blood tests, I want to understand if everything is okay. If so I’ll just think about resting and I hope to be back in good condition as soon as possible,” he said.
Zverev seemed visibly worried and alarmed in view of the rest of the season, starting with the ATP Masters 1000 in Montreal where – at this point – his presence remains in strong doubt. During the tournament, Zverev had also made big complaints about too many consecutive challenges and, for example, the challenge against Musetti, was played less than 18 hours after the previous one against Popyrin, an unacceptable situation for the strong German tennis player, who expressed, like many others, his discontent with the organization.
But what was the illness that struck the German? It could have been a virus, which Zverev could have contracted in Paris, as some European media have pointed out. An intestinal virus, which could have negatively affected the performance of the gold medal defending champion. There are also those who advance a hypothesis linked to anemia but, obviously, these are only the first rumors: the blood tests will show the problem suffered by the German. Tennis World USA staff wishes Zerev a speedy recovery.
